Ogun Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Fake Bandit Attack Video

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Qawiyu Oloyede over an alleged fake bandit attack video circulated on social media to create panic in Atan-Ota Area of the State.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly confessed during Police interrogation that he staged the viral clip solely to gain followers and attract attention on TikTok.

The incident reportedly came to light after a resident, Ayinla Sodiq, lodged a complaint with the Police, accusing Oloyede of creating and sharing misleading content falsely claiming that bandits had invaded the Atan Community in Ogun State.

In a video now circulating online, the suspect was seen kneeling while being questioned by security operatives. During the interrogation, he allegedly admitted that no bandit attack actually occurred and that the content was fabricated to trend on social media.

The suspect, said to be a tailor residing around Sokoto Road in Atan-Ota, reportedly told Police that he recruited a Fulani herder known to him to appear in the staged video. He allegedly admitted that the herder was initially reluctant to participate in the act.

Police authorities warned residents against spreading false information capable of causing fear, confusion, and public unrest, stressing that individuals found circulating fake security alerts would be prosecuted according to the law.

The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and urged members of the public to verify security-related information through official channels before sharing such content online.
