Oyo Police Gun Down Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Victim In Oke-Ogun Operation

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected kidnappers during a joint security operation in Otu, located in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, as security operatives successfully rescued an abducted victim from captivity.

Global Mirror News gathered that the operation was carried out by Police operatives in collaboration with Local Hunters and other Security Agencies following a distress alert from hunters who reportedly came under attack from armed kidnappers while on a hunting expedition in Otu on Sunday, May 25, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday May 26 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the hunters narrowly escaped death after the suspected criminals opened fire on them in the forest area.

The statement explained that security operatives immediately swung into action after receiving intelligence about the attack.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence received, a response team comprising Police operatives, Local Hunters, and other Security Agencies was immediately mobilised to the scene at Otu,” the statement noted.

Global Mirror News learnt that upon arrival at the location, the joint security team encountered the armed kidnappers, who reportedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to a fierce gun battle.

The Police said the operatives eventually overpowered the suspects through what it described as a “superior tactical response,” resulting in the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers.

During the operation, Security Agents rescued a kidnapped victim identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, said to be about 50 years old, who was allegedly abducted from Okaka community and held captive within the Otu forest axis.

The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the crossfire and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Security operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a machete from the scene of the encounter.

The Command further disclosed that one of the Local Hunters who participated in the operation sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Commending the bravery of the hunters and other security personnel involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police assured residents that the command would sustain aggressive operations against criminal activities across the State.

The Command also urged residents to continue supporting Security Agencies with credible and timely information capable of helping to tackle insecurity in the State.

The latest operation comes amid growing security concerns in parts of Oyo State following the recent attacks on schools in Esiele, Yamota, and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area, where armed assailants abducted over 40 pupils, students, and teachers.

The attacks also claimed the life of an assistant headmaster, Mr. Adesiyan Adegboye, while another abducted teacher, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, was later reportedly killed by the terrorists.

Sources had earlier disclosed that the kidnappers opened communication channels with the State Government, insisting they would only negotiate directly with the Governor
