“They Did Ojoro For Me” — Portable Cries Foul After Defeat to Carter Efe in Celebrity Boxing Clash

Controversial Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has reacted angrily following his loss to skit maker and entertainer Carter Efe in a much-publicized celebrity boxing match held in Lagos.
The bout, which drew widespread attention across social media and entertainment circles, took place at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel on the night of May 1 and ran into the early hours of May 2. According to official scorecards, Carter Efe secured a unanimous decision victory after three rounds, with judges scoring the contest 30-27 in his favour.
However, speaking in a viral video seen by Global Mirror News, Portable rejected the outcome, alleging foul play and bias from the event organizers. The singer, known for his outspoken personality, claimed that the fight was unfairly arranged due to Carter Efe’s physical advantage, particularly his height and reach.
Portable insisted that he delivered significant punches during the fight, accusing critics and officials of ignoring his performance while favouring his opponent. He further alleged that Carter Efe relied heavily on clinching tactics, which he believes should have been penalized.
“They did ojoro for me,” Portable said, using a colloquial term implying manipulation or rigging. “He was holding my neck, and I was landing punches too, but nobody is talking about that. They already knew he had longer hands and still matched us.”
Despite the defeat, the singer attempted to downplay the loss, shifting focus to his personal life. In the same video, he revealed that the recent birth of his baby boy holds far greater significance to him than any boxing title.
Global Mirror News gathered that the celebrity boxing event is part of a growing trend in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where influencers and performers step into the ring for exhibition bouts aimed at boosting fan engagement and digital traction.
While the spectacle attracted massive online viewership, debates have since emerged over fairness, officiating standards, and matchmaking criteria.

The fight has continued to trend across platforms, with fans divided some backing Carter Efe’s victory as deserved, while others echo Portable’s claims of bias.
