FIFA Releases List of 33 Prohibited Items for 2026 World Cup Stadiums, Warns of Possible Jail Terms for Offenders

As excitement builds ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Football Governing Body FIFA has unveiled a comprehensive list of items that will be strictly prohibited inside stadiums across the host Nations, the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The regulations form part of an enhanced security framework aimed at guaranteeing the safety of players, officials, and millions of fans expected to attend matches during the global football spectacle.

According to FIFA, spectators found carrying any prohibited item into tournament venues will have such items confiscated at security checkpoints. However, authorities warned that possession of certain restricted goods, particularly illegal substances and banned vaping devices, could result in arrest, prosecution, or even imprisonment depending on the laws of the host country.

Global Mirror News gathered that Mexico has particularly stringent regulations regarding electronic smoking devices, with violations potentially attracting severe penalties, including fines and jail sentences in some circumstances.

FIFA also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on pyrotechnics such as flares, fireworks, and smoke bombs. Fans caught with such items may face immediate ejection from venues, criminal investigations, and possible legal sanctions.

In addition, the football body has tightened regulations on bags and personal belongings. Only transparent bags and small clutch purses will be permitted inside stadiums, while most food and beverages brought from outside will not be allowed. Exceptions will be made only for approved medical necessities and infant-related items.

Supporters have also been advised to avoid carrying noise-making devices such as air horns, whistles, and vuvuzelas, as these have been prohibited under the tournament’s code of conduct.
