Tears as 27-Year-Old Nigerian Mother Dies by Suicide in UK After Silent Battle With Mental Health

A tragic incident has left family, friends and members of the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom in mourning after a 27-year-old Nigerian mother, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide following a prolonged struggle with mental health challenges.

Global Mirror News gathered that a Coroner’s Court in the United Kingdom ruled that Beatrice took her own life after battling emotional and psychological difficulties linked to personal issues.

Beatrice had relocated from Nigeria to the UK in November 2023 on a skilled worker visa, where she worked as a caregiver while trying to build a better future for her family.

The inquest heard that on the day of the incident, her husband, Damian Butler, left their home on Norris Road, Stanfield, at about 4:30 p.m. for his delivery job. He reportedly returned about two hours later to use the bathroom, where he made the heartbreaking discovery of his wife lying unresponsive.

Emergency services were immediately contacted, but despite their efforts, Beatrice was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:21 p.m., Police Officer PC Hinchliffe told the Court.

Investigators later confirmed that there was no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement in her death.

During the hearing, Butler disclosed that his wife had endured serious mental health struggles over the past year, which he linked to ongoing issues involving Stoke-on-Trent City Council. He also revealed that he only later became aware that Beatrice had previously made two attempts to end her life.

A post-mortem examination conducted by pathologist Dr. Jones found that Beatrice died from oxygen deprivation.

Delivering her verdict, Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor concluded that Beatrice died by suicide.

The coroner noted that evidence presented before the court showed Beatrice had researched and planned how to take her own life before the tragic incident. She extended her heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones.

Beatrice is survived by her husband, their young son and her siblings.

Global Mirror News reports that the heartbreaking tragedy has once again highlighted the growing need for greater awareness of mental health issues and improved access to emotional and psychological support, especially for migrants adjusting to life in a new Country while facing personal and social pressures.
