Kwara Community Residents Rescue Abandoned Newborn Found Along Farm Path

Residents of Omupo in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have rescued a newborn baby boy found abandoned along a farm path in the community.
The infant, reportedly discovered with his placenta still attached, was first spotted by a passerby who immediately alerted other residents, prompting a swift rescue and transfer to a medical facility.
According to reports, the baby was taken to Omupo Cottage Hospital for urgent medical attention after being found in a vulnerable condition along the roadside path.
Global Mirror News gathered that the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Ismail Bakare, confirmed the incident on Monday, July 13, 2026, stating that the child was brought to the hospital alive and is currently receiving treatment under close medical supervision.
“The baby was brought to the hospital after being found abandoned along a farm path. He is stable and responding well to treatment,” Bakare said.
The Medical expert explained that although the newborn survived the harsh conditions in which he was found, he would require continued medical care to ensure a full recovery.
“He will need sustained medical care, proper nutrition and adequate support in the coming weeks to aid his recovery and development,” the doctor added.
The incident has drawn concern from residents of the community, who commended the prompt response of the passerby and health workers that ensured the child’s survival.
Cases of child abandonment continue to raise concern among child rights advocates, who have repeatedly called for stronger social support systems, public awareness campaigns and greater protection for vulnerable children across the Country.
