Ondo Govt Suspends 27 Students Over Bullying, Indiscipline

The Ondo State Government has suspended 27 students from three Public Secondary Schools in Akure over alleged acts of gross misconduct and indiscipline.

Global Mirror News gathered that the affected students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College and CAC Grammar School. According to the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the suspension takes immediate effect and remains indefinite pending the outcome of investigations by the schools’ disciplinary committees and the Ministry.

The Ministry said the disciplinary action followed reports of unruly behaviour and violations of the state’s Code of Conduct for public secondary schools, despite repeated warnings and engagements with school administrators aimed at curbing indiscipline.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Akindele Ige, visited the affected schools on Monday to enforce the suspension order and held meetings with principals, vice-principals and heads of departments. He stressed the need for stronger supervision, effective monitoring and strict enforcement of disciplinary measures in schools.

Ige expressed concern over what he described as increasing cases of bullying, fighting, truancy and the circulation of indecent videos on social media among students, warning that such acts disrupt the learning environment and tarnish the image of the state’s education sector.

“The Ministry maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards behaviours that undermine the integrity of our educational system. Schools are centres for character formation and academic excellence,” he said, reiterating the Government’s commitment to ensuring safe, disciplined and conducive learning environments.

Under the suspension order, the affected students are barred from entering their respective schools or participating in any academic, sporting or extracurricular activities until further notice. The Ministry also urged parents and guardians to take a more active role in monitoring the conduct and activities of their children both at home and online.
