2027: YPM Targets 60,000 Votes for Senator Adeola as Three Political Groups Join Movement
The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State has unveiled an ambitious plan to mobilise at least 60,000 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship hopeful, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), in the 2027 Ogun State Governorship election.
The declaration was made by the Convener of the movement, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, during a strategic meeting held on Saturday in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, where the group also welcomed three additional political organisations into its fold, further strengthening its grassroots structure across the State.
Akintunde said the movement remained committed to expanding its youth and students’ solidarity programme before the end of the month as part of ongoing efforts to deepen grassroots participation and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the YPM has continued to record remarkable growth, attracting support from various communities and political stakeholders across Ogun State. He commended members of the State Working Committee, apex leaders, Local Government coordinators, youth leaders and other members for their unwavering dedication to the movement’s vision.
“We are here to assess our progress, chart the next phase of our activities and unveil plans that will further engage students and young people across Ogun State. We are equally preparing a major empowerment programme for members while sustaining our Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration and voter mobilisation campaign,” he said.
Akintunde disclosed that the movement had facilitated the registration of more than 12,000 new voters as part of preparations for the 2027 polls, describing the feat as a significant milestone in promoting democratic participation and grassroots mobilisation.
He noted that the YPM has emerged as one of the state’s leading grassroots political mobilisation platforms, with emphasis on youth inclusion, voter education, membership expansion and active participation in the democratic process.
He added that through sustained community engagement and strategic mobilisation, the movement aims to build a broad-based support network capable of contributing significantly to the electoral success of the APC in Ogun State.
“Today, the Yayi Progressives Movement has grown to over 44,000 registered members across the state, with our numbers increasing daily through the efforts of our local government coordinators as the PVC registration exercise continues. This growth reflects the confidence people have in our vision and our determination to build a stronger political movement for the future of Ogun State,” Akintunde stated.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, said YPM had evolved into a formidable grassroots platform following the merger of several political support groups.
He attributed the movement’s rapid expansion to the leadership of its convener and the commitment of members across the state.
Kaka said the movement would continue to promote unity, grassroots empowerment, political participation and inclusive leadership while working towards securing victory for Senator Adeola and other APC candidates in future elections.
“I am delighted by the tremendous progress we have recorded. YPM has exceeded expectations and continues to attract supporters from every part of Ogun State. Our increasing membership reflects the confidence people have in this movement, and I appreciate our Convener and every member whose dedication has brought us this far,” he said.
Also addressing the gathering, former two-term member of the House of Representatives and one of the movement’s apex leaders, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, urged members to remain united and focused on the ideals of the organisation.
He commended the leadership of Akintunde, Kaka and other officials for sustaining the movement’s steady growth and encouraged members to continue working collectively towards achieving its objectives.
The meeting also witnessed the formal defection of three political groups into the Yayi Progressives Movement. The new entrants include Women in Politics from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Idege Group from Ogun East Senatorial District, and Alhaji Mutty Group, also from Ogun East Senatorial District.
The groups, accompanied by hundreds of supporters, were officially received into the movement, with Akintunde directing all local government coordinators to immediately begin the integration and documentation of the new members.
Leaders and coordinators present at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying grassroots consultations, expanding the movement’s presence across all 20 local government areas of Ogun State, and mobilising more eligible voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
