Boko Haram Burns Schools in Chibok Community as Residents Flee

Boko Haram insurgents have launched another attack on a Community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting educational facilities ablaze and forcing residents to flee for safety.

The attack occurred on Saturday June 13 evening in Kautikari village, a Community that has repeatedly faced terrorist assaults over the years. According to security sources, the insurgents stormed the village at about 7 p.m., creating panic among residents and targeting key public infrastructure.

During the raid, the terrorists reportedly set fire to both the village primary school and the day secondary school, causing significant damage to educational facilities that serve the local population.

A security source disclosed that although no deaths or injuries had been reported at the time of filing this report, many residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the attackers.

“No casualty so far, but residents were forced to flee into the bush for safety,” the source said.

The latest attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Borno State and follows the unresolved disappearance of pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba, who were reportedly abducted nearly a month ago and remain unaccounted for.

Residents expressed shock over the destruction of the schools, describing the action as unusual compared to previous attacks on the community.

One resident recalled that terrorists had invaded the village several months earlier but refrained from destroying public or private property during that incident.

“I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” the resident said.

The attack has renewed fears among residents and stakeholders over the safety of schools in conflict-affected communities, especially in Chibok, a town that gained international attention following the abduction of schoolgirls by Boko Haram in 2014.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident as efforts continue to address persistent insurgent threats across parts of northeastern Nigeria.
