Uzor Arukwe Opens Up on Why He Stayed Silent After Alex Ekubo’s Death

Nollywood Actor Uzor Arukwe has explained why he chose not to immediately react publicly following the death of fellow Actor Alex Ekubo, saying the heartbreaking loss left him struggling to find the right words.
In an emotional tribute shared on social media, Arukwe revealed that many people had questioned his silence after news of Ekubo’s passing broke, wondering why he did not post photos, write lengthy captions, or publicly express his grief.
Addressing the concerns, the actor said his silence was never a sign of indifference but rather a reflection of the deep sorrow he felt.
“I know some people wondered why I didn’t post, why I didn’t say anything, why there were no pictures, no captions, no public display of grief. The truth is, I didn’t know what to say,” he wrote.
Reflecting on their friendship, Arukwe recalled meeting Ekubo on the set of filmmaker Dabby Chimere and described the late actor as warm, welcoming, and respectful from their very first encounter.
According to him, hearing tributes and personal stories from those who knew Ekubo more intimately reinforced an important lesson about life and legacy — that people are often remembered not only for their accomplishments but also for their kindness and humanity.
“People won’t only remember our talent or our achievements. They will remember our kindness. They will remember how we treated people. They will remember our spirit,” he stated.
Arukwe further noted that grief affects people differently and that not every expression of mourning has to be made publicly.
“Silence was my first response to the news of your death because grief comes with silence too. Not every goodbye needs a post. Some are carried in prayer. Some are carried in memories. Some are carried in the heart,” he wrote.
He concluded the tribute by expressing gratitude for the impact Ekubo had on those around him, thanking the late actor for his warmth, grace, and the example he left behind.
“We’ll hold the fort on this side until we meet again. Journey well, ezigbo nwoke,” he added in his farewell message.
