Fire Erupts at Polaris Bank Tower on Lagos Island, Vehicle Destroyed as Emergency Responders Contain Blaze

A fire outbreak on Thursday, June 18 caused panic on Lagos Island after flames engulfed part of the Polaris Bank Tower located on Broad Street, with emergency responders swiftly moving in to prevent the incident from escalating.
Global Mirror News gathered that the fire occurred at approximately 11:33 a.m. on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which houses a branch of Polaris Bank and also serves as a parking facility.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze involved a stationary saloon car parked within the building. Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that emergency teams successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the high-rise structure.
She stated that the damage was limited to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings, adding that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Building located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island. The only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings. No casualties or injuries were reported,” Adeseye said.
Videos and images shared on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building, drawing the attention of residents, business operators and passersby in the busy commercial district.
Emergency personnel were seen working tirelessly to contain the flames and ensure the fire did not spread to neighbouring structures or other parts of the building.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to determine or disclose the cause of the fire. Investigations are expected to be carried out to establish the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
The incident, however, ended without casualties, thanks to the swift intervention of firefighters and other emergency responders.
