Nursing Student Found Dead in Her Residence as Police Detain Landlord for Questioning

A 23-year-old Nursing student, Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, prompting an intensive investigation by the Anambra State Police Command.

Global Mirror News gathered that Chiamaka, a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, was reportedly discovered lifeless within the compound where she lived as a tenant on June 14, 2026.

The tragic incident has led to the detention of the landlord of the property for questioning as detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, had ordered a thorough and expedited investigation into the case.

According to the Police, Officers who visited the scene observed a deep cut on Chiamaka’s thigh, blood stains around the premises, and other visible marks of violence on her body.

The nature of the injuries and evidence found at the scene raised strong suspicions of foul play, leading investigators to treat the case as a suspected murder.

Following preliminary inquiries, the case was transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.

Police authorities confirmed that the landlord of the premises where Chiamaka resided has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing efforts to establish what transpired before her death.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in a hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu charged investigators to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the facts surrounding the death of Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

He also reassured members of the public that the Command remains committed to a professional and transparent investigation, while urging anyone with useful information that could assist the police to come forward.

The death of the young nursing student has sparked grief and concern among residents of Alor and members of the academic community, as many await the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
