Mystery Surrounds Death of Ogun Man Found Hanging as Police Launch Investigation

A cloud of grief and uncertainty has enveloped residents of Molode in the Sabo Area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, following the discovery of a middle-aged man who was found dead in circumstances suspected to be suicide.

The deceased, identified as Obikoya Gbenga Adewale, was reportedly found hanging outside a residential building on Saturday June 13, sparking concern among residents and prompting an immediate response from security authorities.

A video that has since gone viral on social media showed the lifeless body of the man, believed to be in his 40s, suspended from the roof of a house. Voices heard in the footage claimed that the deceased was not a resident of the property and had allegedly come to the location before taking the fatal action.

The incident drew the attention of members of the community, many of whom gathered at the scene in shock as authorities moved in to secure the area and commence preliminary investigations.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Command said Officers responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the matter was reported to the police at about 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, after which the Divisional Police Officer and his team visited the scene.

“On Saturday, about 0840hrs, information was received that one Obikoya Gbenga Adewale, an adult male of Sabo Area, Ijebu Ode, was found dead in circumstances suspected to be suicide,” Babaseyi stated.

He explained that police officers carried out all necessary procedures at the scene, including documentation and photographic evidence gathering, in line with standard investigative protocols.

“The Divisional Police Officer, accompanied by his team, visited the scene. Necessary documentation was carried out and photographs were taken in line with standard procedure,” he added.

The Police spokesperson further disclosed that the deceased’s body has been evacuated and preserved for further examination, while investigators work to establish the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.

“The body was preserved for further examination, while investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death,” he said.

While authorities continue their inquiry, the Ogun State Police Command has urged residents to pay closer attention to their physical and emotional wellbeing, emphasizing the importance of seeking support during difficult times.

Babaseyi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting community welfare, encouraging families and friends to reach out promptly whenever they observe signs of distress in loved ones.
