FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Kabir Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Global Mirror News gathered that the announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Adha and its respect for millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world observing the annual festival.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful both within the country and in the diaspora, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a sacred celebration centered on sacrifice, obedience to God, love, and compassion for humanity.
The Minister urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for National peace, unity, security, and economic progress, stressing the need for collective reflection and renewed hope for the country.
“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement read.
He further encouraged citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence, brotherhood, and national unity during the celebrations.
The Federal Government also wished Muslims across the nation a peaceful, joyous, and blessed Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
