Suspects Confess To Raping, Beheading Nursing Student As Police Intensify Investigation

Fresh details have emerged in the gruesome murder of 21-year-old Nursing Student, Wendy Achumba, as the Imo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the crime.
Global Mirror News gathered that the suspects, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, 32, and Emmanuel Onyekachi, 25, were arrested by operatives of the Obowo Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with community stakeholders following intelligence-led investigations into the killing.
The victim, a Post-Basic Nursing student of Mercy College of Nursing Science, Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, was earlier discovered dead in her off-campus apartment under horrifying circumstances that sparked outrage across the State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, one of the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation that he repeatedly raped the student before killing and beheading her in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The Police spokesperson disclosed that investigations revealed the victim struggled fiercely with her attackers before she was overpowered and murdered.
Okoye explained that the suspects were apprehended after sustained investigative efforts by the police and local vigilante groups within the community.
He further stated that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, assured residents that justice would be served, stressing that the command remains committed to ensuring all those connected to the brutal killing face the full weight of the law.
The shocking murder has continued to generate widespread condemnation from residents, students, civil society groups, and Nursing Associations, with many demanding stricter security measures around tertiary Institutions and justice for the slain student.
