Ekiti LG Vice Chairman Regains Freedom After Joint Security Rescue

The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Mrs Grace Ogunleye, has regained her freedom after she was abducted by suspected gunmen along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road in Ekiti State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, the Vice Chairman was rescued unhurt through a coordinated operation involving security Agencies and Local Security Personnel.

Global Mirror News gathered that Ogunleye was kidnapped on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, while travelling along the road. Sources disclosed that her vehicle was later found abandoned, while her mobile phone remained switched off after the incident.

In a statement issued on Thursday May 21 in Ado Ekiti, Abutu said, “One Mrs Ogunleye Grace, the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, who was allegedly kidnapped on 20th May, 2026 by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums, has been rescued unhurt.

“The breakthrough came as a result of a joint operation by the Police, the Military and other Security Agencies as well as Local Security Personnel, who embarked on a rescue mission and mounted pressure on the hoodlums,” the statement added.

The spokesperson further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the State, Micheal Falade, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover those responsible for the abduction.

The incident has again raised concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, especially in Ilejemeje Local Government Area.

Recall that on April 28, 2026, unknown gunmen attacked a programme at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, also within Ilejemeje Local Government Area, killing a pastor and abducting about 15 worshippers.

Global Mirror News reports that the kidnapped worshippers are yet to regain freedom, while Security Agencies say efforts are ongoing to rescue them safely.
