Gunmen Abduct Council Chairman, Injure Aides

Panic and confusion gripped residents of Sapele, Delta State, after heavily armed gunmen launched a daring late-night operation, storming a hotel and abducting a serving Local Government Chairman, Hon. Bright Abeke, in an attack that left security aides injured and exposed fresh cracks in the region’s fragile security situation.

Global Mirror News gathered that the assailants were said to have arrived in a coordinated manner, firing sporadically to disperse bystanders and create an atmosphere of fear before forcefully whisking away the Council Boss from the premises. Eyewitnesses described the incident as swift and well-executed, leaving little room for resistance.

During the attack, at least one of the Chairman’s security aides and another individual sustained gunshot wounds. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, although details regarding their current condition remain unclear.

Sources revealed that the gunmen fled the scene through adjoining routes, taking advantage of the chaos that followed the shooting. As of press time, the whereabouts of the abducted Chairman remain unknown, with no official communication reported from the kidnappers.

The incident has heightened tension across the area, as residents expressed growing fears over the increasing frequency of kidnappings and violent attacks targeting prominent individuals.

Although Security Agencies have yet to issue a formal statement, indications suggest that efforts are ongoing to locate the victim and apprehend those behind the attack.

Global Mirror News gathered that security operatives have begun intelligence-driven investigations, with search efforts extending to surrounding communities in a bid to track the abductors and secure the safe release of the Council Chairman.

The development further underscores Nigeria’s persistent security challenges, particularly the alarming rise in kidnapping cases, prompting renewed calls for decisive and coordinated action by relevant authorities.
