Gunmen Ambush, Kill Alleged Cult Leader in Surulere

A suspected cult leader, Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Yinka Agali, has been assassinated in the Surulere area of Lagos State, in an incident believed to be tied to rising tensions among rival groups.

Global Mirror News gathered that the deceased was reportedly a leading figure of the Buccaneers confraternity in the area and was said to wield significant influence within the group. The attack occurred on Saturday night, April 11, 2026, along the Iponri axis of Surulere, where he was ambushed while driving.

According to sources, Agali was targeted by unknown gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle at close range. While initial reports suggest the killing may be connected to an ongoing rivalry between cult factions, other accounts have hinted at possible political undertones, especially as local political activities begin to intensify ahead of upcoming elections.

Unverified videos circulating on social media have also attempted to link the deceased to the All Progressives Congress (APC), though no official confirmation has been made regarding any political affiliation.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command disclosed that it received a distress report of gunfire at about 11:30 p.m. near the National Stadium Bridge heading towards Iponri. A patrol team from the Surulere Division was immediately deployed to the scene.

On arrival, officers found the victim inside an unregistered white Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. He was promptly rushed to the Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the attackers fled the scene after abandoning an unregistered black Ford Edge, switching to another getaway vehicle. Both the Mercedes-Benz and the Ford Edge have since been recovered by the police.

Global Mirror News further gathered that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the killing. However, in a surprising development, the family of the deceased has reportedly retrieved his body and indicated that they do not intend to pursue the case further.

The incident has heightened concerns over cult-related violence in Lagos, particularly in Surulere and adjoining areas, where clashes and targeted killings have continued to pose serious security challenges.
