Fake JAMB Coordinator Busted with Candidates’ Exam Slips

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a man allegedly posing as a coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), recovering several examination materials linked to the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Global Mirror News gathered that the suspect, identified as Eric Nwombu, was apprehended in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about suspicious activities at a cyber café where candidates had gone to check their examination centres.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was carried out by operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative. The suspect is being investigated for alleged criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of official examination materials.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect had been collecting UTME examination slips from unsuspecting candidates while falsely presenting himself as a coordinator for the 2026 examination exercise.
Items recovered from him include eight UTME examination slips as well as an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of candidates—materials he reportedly could not satisfactorily account for during interrogation.
Further reports indicate that staff at the cyber café became suspicious of his claims and alerted security operatives. Upon sighting the Police, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
The Police spokesperson confirmed that preliminary investigations have commenced, adding that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public examinations. He urged candidates, parents, and the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement Agencies.
The incident underscores growing concerns over examination-related fraud and impersonation schemes targeting unsuspecting candidates across Nigeria.
