Council Boss Kidnap: Ekiti Police Arrest Two Additional Suspects

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rufus Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi.
Global Mirror News gathered that the latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to five, following the earlier arrest of three suspects announced by the police last week.
In a statement issued on Monday June 8, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the command disclosed that the two newly arrested suspects, identified as Daramola Sehinde and Oluyede Dapo, were apprehended on June 6, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.
According to Abutu, the suspects were arrested over their alleged involvement in the conspiracy, abduction, and assault that resulted in injuries to the council chairman and Ajayi.
“The suspects arrested will be objectively and thoroughly investigated and charged in court, while efforts are underway to arrest other suspects mentioned in connection with the crime,” the police spokesperson stated.
Global Mirror News reports that the arrests are linked to the abduction of Olorunfemi in Ikere-Ekiti, an incident that has generated widespread concern across the State.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship candidate, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, who accused the Police of intimidating, harassing, and illegally arresting party members through its Rapid Response Squad (RRS) ahead of the forthcoming Governorship election.
Responding to the allegations, Abutu said the command had not carried out any unlawful arrests and denied targeting members of any political party.
“The Command wishes to state clearly that no illegal arrest was made and no arrest was unjustifiably targeted at any political party member for any political reason as alleged,” he said.
He explained that all individuals arrested by the police were being investigated strictly in connection with the alleged conspiracy, abduction, and assault of the Ikere-West LCDA chairman and his associate.
The Police spokesperson further stressed that the command remained committed to justice, professionalism, and the rule of law, adding that it would not be distracted by propaganda or political pressure from carrying out its constitutional duties.
“The Command will never be intimidated or deterred through propaganda, emotional outbursts, or usual political gimmicks from performing its statutory responsibilities of maintaining law and order irrespective of the citizens’ individual political, religious, or cultural affiliations,” Abutu added.
He also conveyed the position of the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, who called on residents to remain law-abiding, avoid spreading false narratives, and remain security-conscious.
Falade assured the public that the command under his leadership would not engage in unlawful arrests, detention, or intimidation of citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
As investigations continue, the police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the abduction and assault case.
