Ado-Odo/Ota Chairman Begins Rehabilitation of Obasanjo–Eledi–Ijagba Road, Expands Drainage Projects to Tackle Flooding |

Residents of the Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area have expressed relief as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, commenced the rehabilitation of the long-neglected Obasanjo–Eledi–Ijagba Road following persistent appeals from members of the affected communities.

Global Mirror News gathered that the road, which serves as a major link between the three communities, had remained in a deplorable condition for years, making movement difficult for motorists, commuters, traders and residents. The situation reportedly became worse during the rainy season due to severe flooding, waterlogging and the absence of functional drainage systems.

Responding to the complaints, Hon. Wasiu carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged road and immediately approved rehabilitation works to restore accessibility and ease the hardship being experienced by residents.

The ongoing intervention, being executed by the Local Government’s Department of Works and Housing under the supervision of Engr. Oladeinde Dapo, includes the excavation and construction of roadside drainage channels, desilting of blocked gutters, filling and grading of failed sections, as well as the comprehensive rehabilitation of the road corridor.

Speaking on the project, the Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responsive, people-oriented governance, stressing that every community in the local government deserves access to quality infrastructure.

“Our people in Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba cried out and we listened. As a Government that remains close to the grassroots, we have a responsibility to respond promptly to the needs of our people. Good roads and effective drainage are not luxuries; they are critical to economic development, safe transportation and the overall well-being of our citizens,” Hon. Wasiu stated.

He assured residents that the project would be completed according to standard specifications within the shortest possible time and appealed for public cooperation with construction workers. He also urged community members to protect the infrastructure by keeping drainage channels free from refuse and other obstructions.

Residents and community leaders commended the Chairman for what they described as a timely intervention, praising his responsiveness and dedication to improving the welfare of the people. They noted that the rehabilitation would significantly enhance transportation, boost commercial activities and reduce the challenges posed by flooding.

Global Mirror News further learnt that the road rehabilitation forms part of a broader infrastructure renewal programme of the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government. The administration is also undertaking a major drainage project in the Sango area following the successful construction of a box culvert along Plaza Road linking Maltina.

The drainage project is designed to improve stormwater management, curb perennial flooding, and protect lives and property, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure that enhances the quality of life across communities in the council area.
