Edo Government Appeals for Public Help to Reunite Abducted 12-Year-Old Girl With Family in Lagos

The Edo State Government has appealed to members of the public to assist in locating the family of a 12-year-old girl, Amarachi Amos, who was allegedly abducted in Lagos State before being abandoned in Edo.

Global Mirror News gathered that the appeal was made by the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development after the young girl was rescued by a local vigilante group and handed over to the authorities.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry on Wednesday, Amarachi was allegedly kidnapped by three unidentified men at Jakande Estate, Lagos, on Friday, July 17, 2026, shortly after her mother sent her on an errand.

The Ministry disclosed that the girl was later discovered at Okhuaihe Community along the Benin–Agbor Road in Edo State, where members of a local vigilante group rescued her and took her to the Divisional Police Headquarters.

She was subsequently transferred to the Edo State Police Command before being placed under the care and protection of the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Recounting her experience, Amarachi said she is 12 years old and had recently completed her Primary Six Leaving School Certificate Examination at Doyin Nursery and Primary School in Lagos.

She explained that after she was forced into a vehicle by the suspected abductors, the men repeatedly demanded the telephone numbers of her relatives. However, she told them she could not remember any family contact.

According to her account, after travelling for several hours, the suspects abandoned her along the Benin–Agbor Road in Edo State before fleeing the scene.

The Ministry said the child remains in its custody while efforts are being intensified to trace her parents and reunite her with her family.

It therefore appealed to residents of Jakande Estate and other parts of Lagos State, as well as anyone who may know Amarachi Amos or her relatives, to urgently contact the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development or the Edo State Police Command with any information that could facilitate her safe reunion with her family.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that every child under its care is reunited with their loved ones as quickly as possible.

Authorities also urged members of the public to widely circulate the information in the hope that Amarachi’s family will be located without delay.
