Over 1,000 Abeokuta South Residents Receive Free Medical Care as Hon. Balogun Reaffirms Commitment to Community Healthcare

The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez (BOA), has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to accessible and quality healthcare as more than 1,000 residents benefitted from a comprehensive free medical outreach organised by Ogun State College of Nursing Science Students Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Global Mirror News gathered that the annual health outreach, held at the Abeokuta South Local Government Secretariat, formed part of efforts to complement the chairman’s I.W.I.S.H. initiative, extending essential healthcare services to residents across all 15 political wards of the council.
The outreach featured a wide range of free medical services, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, eye examinations, chest assessments, general health checks and professional health counselling. The exercise was designed to encourage early detection of illnesses, disease prevention and improved health awareness among residents.
In a further demonstration of his people-oriented leadership, Hon. Balogun also provided transportation support for beneficiaries, ensuring that residents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, could conveniently access the healthcare services.
Addressing participants during the exercise, the Council Chairman described healthcare as one of the most critical foundations for sustainable community development, emphasizing that a healthy population remains essential to social and economic progress.
He commended the Nursing schools, their management, lecturers and student Nurses for their dedication to community service and practical healthcare delivery, noting that their intervention complements the Local Government’s efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and improve the overall well-being of residents.
According to him, the outreach aligns with his administration’s vision of building a healthier, more productive and resilient society through strategic collaboration with healthcare institutions and professionals committed to serving humanity.
The event attracted residents from all 15 wards of Abeokuta South Local Government, many of whom expressed appreciation for the initiative. Beneficiaries described the programme as timely, impactful and lifesaving, especially for elderly citizens, low-income families and other vulnerable groups who might otherwise struggle to access routine medical examinations.
