Alleged Serial Theft Suspect Nabbed at UCH Ibadan With Stolen Phone, Doctors’ ATM Cards

Tension erupted at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after a man was allegedly apprehended with a stolen mobile phone and several ATM cards reportedly belonging to Doctors at the Premier Healthcare Institution.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect was caught shortly after allegedly stealing a phone within the hospital premises. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over recurring cases of theft reportedly affecting both medical personnel and patients at the facility.

Global Mirror News gathered that a witness who shared details of the incident on social media platform X said he was waiting in front of the Oral Surgery Clinic when the suspect walked past him and entered the building.

Moments later, shouts of “Ole!”, a Yoruba word for thief, rang out from inside the clinic, prompting bystanders to rush to the scene. To his surprise, the individual being accused was the same man he had seen enter the area minutes earlier.

According to the witness, the stolen phone was immediately recovered from the suspect. However, the discovery that followed reportedly shocked hospital staff and onlookers.

During a search, several ATM cards allegedly belonging to Doctors were said to have been found in the suspect’s possession. The cards were reportedly linked to theft cases that had been reported within the hospital in recent weeks.

Sources at the hospital claimed that Doctors and patients had repeatedly complained about missing valuables, including mobile phones, laptops, ATM cards, and even motorcycles.

The recovery of the ATM cards has fueled suspicions that the suspect may be connected to a series of theft incidents previously reported around the hospital environment.

As of the time of filing this report, hospital authorities and security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. It also remains unclear whether the suspect has been formally handed over to the police for further investigation.

Global Mirror News understands that the incident has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for improved security measures within public healthcare facilities to protect staff, patients, and visitors from criminal activities.

Investigations into the matter are expected to continue as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations.
