Veteran Ogun Politician Joju Fadairo Quits Politics, Renounces Party Membership

In a major development in Ogun State’s political landscape, veteran politician and respected community leader, Chief Joju Fadairo, has announced his retirement from partisan politics, declaring that he is withdrawing from all political activities and relinquishing membership of any political party with immediate effect.
Fadairo made the announcement on Wednesday July 1, 2026 during a world press conference held at his private residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, describing the decision as a personal one reached after careful reflection and without pressure from any individual or political group.
Addressing Journalists, the elder statesman dismissed any speculation that his decision was influenced by political disagreements or external forces, insisting that it was a voluntary choice after decades of active participation in politics at both the state and National levels.
According to him, he believes he has made his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process and that the time has come for him to step aside.
“I have actively participated in the political landscape of our great Nation at both the State and National levels for several decades. I am convinced that I have made my contributions and fulfilled my obligations. The time has come for me to step aside and take a well-deserved rest,” he said.
Chief Fadairo expressed appreciation to his family, political associates, supporters, well-wishers and members of the media for their steadfast support throughout his political career.
He also declared that he would no longer identify with any political party, stressing that he intends to remain neutral and serve as a father figure to people across political divides.
The former political leader said his post-politics life would be devoted to community development, traditional responsibilities and service to the church.
He noted that his new role would allow him to dedicate more time to his responsibilities as the Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland, while also contributing more actively to religious and community affairs.
“I shall no longer be affiliated with or aligned to any political party. I will henceforth assume the role of a father to all, maintaining neutrality and offering goodwill without partisan inclination. I will continue to work for the progress of my community and Ogun State,” he stated.
Reaffirming his position, Fadairo said he remains permanently nonpartisan from Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and wished his former political associates success in their future political engagements.
His announcement marks the end of a long political career during which he remained an influential figure in Ogun State politics, with many political actors regarding him as one of the state’s respected elder statesmen.
Political observers say his exit from partisan politics is likely to generate reactions across Ogun State’s political circles, given his decades of influence and involvement in public affairs.
