Tears, Tribute in Maiduguri as Military Lays Slain General, Fallen Soldiers to Rest

The Nigerian Military has conducted a solemn burial ceremony for a Senior Officer and several Soldiers killed during a recent terrorist attack in Borno State, marking another painful chapter in the Country’s prolonged insurgency in the North-East.
Global Mirror News gathered that Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah and other Officers who died in active service were laid to rest at the Maimalari Cantonment cemetery in Maiduguri, where they were honoured with full Military rites in recognition of their sacrifice.
The ceremony, attended by Military personnel, family members, and dignitaries, was marked by deep emotion as tributes poured in for the fallen heroes who lost their lives while defending the nation against insurgents.
The Officers were among those killed during a fierce attack on a military base in Borno State, where terrorists launched a coordinated assault on troops. Despite putting up resistance, the attack led to significant casualties, including the death of the senior Commander.
Military authorities have repeatedly described such incidents as a reminder of the evolving threat posed by extremist groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which continue to target both civilians and security formations in the region.
The burial comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East, where insurgent attacks have persisted for over a decade, claiming thousands of lives and displacing millions.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier expressed condolences over the deaths, reaffirming the government’s commitment to defeating terrorism and ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen Soldiers are not in vain.
As the bugle sounded and flags were lowered during the final rites, the Military reiterated its resolve to intensify operations against terrorist groups, vowing continued efforts to restore peace and stability across the troubled region.
