Ondo Police Nab Suspect Over Brutal Killing of 18-Month-Old Girl

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the shocking murder of an 18-month-old girl who was allegedly abducted from her mother and beheaded in Agoti Farm Settlement, located in Idanre Local Government Area of the State.
Global Mirror News learnt that the tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves through the farming community, occurred while the child’s mother was at a farm camp with her children. According to reports, an unidentified man reportedly stormed the camp, attacked the woman, and forcefully seized the toddler before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s father, Mr. Bright Kalu, recounted the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the incident. He explained that he was working at another farm when the attack took place and only learned of the tragedy after being contacted by his wife.
According to Kalu, his wife told him that an unknown assailant suddenly invaded their camp and assaulted her. Despite her efforts to protect her children, she was only able to secure three of them, while the youngest child went missing during the chaos.
Alarmed by the development, Kalu, alongside his elder brother and other members of the community, immediately launched a search operation around the Area. Their search ended in horror when they discovered the lifeless body of the toddler behind their residence. The child’s head had been severed, leaving the family and residents devastated.
The grieving father subsequently reported the incident to the Olofin Police Station in Idanre. The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for a comprehensive investigation.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that detectives had apprehended a suspect believed to be linked to the gruesome crime.
Jimoh stated that investigators are working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing and determine whether other individuals may have played a role in the attack.
He assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served and that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
The Police spokesperson also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any information that could assist ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the bereaved father has called on security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure that all those responsible for his daughter’s death are identified, prosecuted, and punished according to the law.
The tragic killing has sparked outrage among residents and renewed calls for improved security in rural communities and farm settlements across Ondo State.
