Family Dispute Turns Fatal as FUPRE 100 Level Student Dies After Alleged Attack by Elder Brother
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a 100-level student who was allegedly stabbed by his elder brother during a dispute at one of the Institution’s hostels.
Global Mirror News learnt that the heartbreaking incident occurred on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Hostel C within the University premises in Effurun, Delta State.
According to reports, the deceased student and his elder brother, Joshua, had been involved in a long-standing disagreement that allegedly escalated over a dispute involving a pair of bathroom slippers.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that Joshua allegedly invited his younger brother to the backyard of the hostel to settle their differences. However, what was intended to be a resolution reportedly turned violent when an altercation broke out between the siblings.
During the confrontation, Joshua allegedly stabbed the victim, inflicting serious injuries before fleeing the scene.
Despite sustaining critical wounds, the student reportedly managed to move away from the location of the attack and reached another section of the hostel. He was later discovered by fellow students, who immediately raised an alarm and sought urgent assistance.
The victim, however, reportedly succumbed to his injuries, sending shockwaves across the university community.
Confirming the incident, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Professor Ezekiel Agbalagba, expressed sadness over the student’s death and acknowledged that the institution was aware of the tragic development.
According to reports, the brothers’ dispute had persisted for some time before escalating into the fatal confrontation that claimed the life of the younger sibling.
The incident has sparked widespread grief among students and staff of the University, with many describing the tragedy as heartbreaking and calling for justice for the deceased.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, while efforts are reportedly ongoing to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly fled after the attack.
