Ogun Police Bust Multiple Crime Rings, Arrest Six Suspects, Recover Firearms, Stolen Items

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the State, arresting six suspected criminals and recovering firearms, ammunition, generators, and mobile phones during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo communities.
Global Mirror News gathered that the successful operations, conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and the Ibafo Police Division, disrupted several criminal networks allegedly involved in illegal possession of firearms, theft, armed intimidation, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects arrested include Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, also known as “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina.
Police authorities disclosed that exhibits recovered during the coordinated operations included a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
Generator Theft Syndicate Dismantled
One of the major breakthroughs came on May 30, 2026, when operatives of the VCRU acted on credible intelligence and arrested Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” who was allegedly a key member of a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding communities.
Investigations led detectives to another suspect, Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” who was allegedly responsible for receiving and keeping stolen items for the criminal network.
A search conducted at the suspect’s premises resulted in the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen from various victims.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Abayomi John, known as “Ibafo,” a commercial motorcyclist alleged to have provided transportation and logistical support to members of the theft syndicate during their operations.
Police authorities stated that all suspects remain in custody while efforts continue to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gang.
SWAT Arrests Suspect Over Illegal Firearms
Global Mirror News learnt that in another operation, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina on June 12 following intelligence reports linking him to unlawful possession of firearms and alleged intimidation of residents in Wasimi and neighboring communities.
A search conducted after his arrest led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one spent cartridge.
According to the police, Ojesina initially denied ownership of the weapons but later claimed he found the pistol within the community and discharged a round to test whether it was functional.
He further alleged that the pump-action rifle had been handed over to him by an unidentified individual currently being tracked by security operatives.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the recovered weapons and identify other persons connected to the case.
Vehicle Parts Theft Network Exposed
Meanwhile, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division uncovered a suspected vehicle parts theft syndicate following a complaint lodged on June 13 regarding theft activities at a site located in Igbeti Sote Village, via Ibafo.
During the operation, officers intercepted Afisu Awesu while he was allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside another suspect who managed to escape.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly stolen forklift tyres from the same location on an earlier occasion and sold them to Bala Aminu, who was later arrested for allegedly receiving stolen property.
Police authorities disclosed that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the remaining members of the criminal network.
Police Commissioner Commends Operatives
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the VCRU, SWAT Unit, and Ibafo Division for their professionalism, swift response, and operational efficiency.
The Police chief reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements operating within the State.
Ojajuni assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen proactive security measures and respond swiftly to emerging threats, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed any safe haven in Ogun State.
