‘Missing Twin’ Drama Deepens in Lagos as Hospital, Police Intensify Probe

A growing controversy has trailed a viral video alleging a case of a “missing twin” in Lagos, after a 28-year-old woman, Blessing Isioma David, reportedly delivered only one baby despite medical records indicating she was pregnant with twins.

The video, which has sparked outrage and concern across social media platforms, showed an obstetric scan report dated March 2026, bearing the patient’s name. The report clearly indicated a twin pregnancy, noting the presence of two foetuses with distinct positions.

According to the scan details, “Twin visible. Twin 1 is an oblique cephalic while Twin 2 is a transverse presentation. Normal cardiac pulsations noted.” It further specified the genders as “Twin 1 is XY (male), while Twin 2 is XX (female),” reinforcing claims that the patient was expecting two babies.

However, the Medical Director of the hospital involved, Dr. Sunday Babajide, has strongly refuted allegations of any malpractice or missing baby, insisting that only one child was delivered.

In his response to Peoples Gazette, Babajide attributed the discrepancy to a diagnostic error, explaining that the initial scan result was inaccurate and misrepresented a single pregnancy as twins.

“The scan was wrong, and she did not carry out another confirmatory scan at a different centre. It was an error; the scan said two instead of one,” he stated.

Providing further insight into the delivery process, Babajide disclosed that the patient’s husband was invited into the theatre during the procedure and personally witnessed the birth.

“We invited the husband to the theatre, and he confirmed that only one baby was delivered. The woman herself was conscious throughout the process; she was not under general anaesthesia,” he added.

He also confirmed that the family was informed immediately after the birth that only one baby had been delivered, maintaining that there was no concealment or foul play.

While defending the hospital’s position, Babajide admitted that there was a lapse in medical protocol, noting that the facility should have insisted on a follow-up scan to validate the initial findings.

“The mistake on our part was not insisting that she undergo another scan elsewhere for confirmation. Especially with scans done around 20 weeks, there can sometimes be room for error,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Global Mirror News gathered that the Lagos State Police Command has stepped into the matter following the public outcry generated by the viral footage.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that an investigation is already underway, with authorities collaborating with relevant medical regulatory bodies to ascertain the facts.

“The Command is aware of the trending video and wishes to inform the public that the matter is currently under investigation. Relevant professional bodies and associations have been contacted and are working in synergy with the Police to unravel the situation,” she stated.

Adebisi further revealed that the Area Commander in charge of Area M has taken direct supervision of the case, assuring that a thorough and transparent investigation will be conducted.

“The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course,” she added.

The Police Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, stressing that the situation is under control.

As the investigation unfolds, the case continues to draw widespread attention, raising concerns about diagnostic accuracy, medical accountability, and patient trust within the healthcare system.
