Doctor Dies Hours After Delivering Triplets

A wave of grief has enveloped Bayelsa State following the death of a medical doctor, Dr. Ere Ogbachi, who reportedly passed away due to complications shortly after giving birth to triplets.
Global Mirror News gathered that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 14, 2026, after the successful delivery at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri.
According to a statement released on Facebook by her brother, Meshack Sintei, complications arose shortly after childbirth, prompting an emergency transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
The family disclosed that despite the efforts of medical personnel at FMC Yenagoa, her condition worsened rapidly. She was said to have died at about 2:45 am.
“She successfully delivered triplets, but complications set in shortly after, leading to her transfer to the ICU. The doctors tried their best to save her, but unfortunately, she could not make it,” the statement indicated.
Sintei recounted the emotional ordeal, noting that the family watched helplessly as her condition deteriorated, with her oxygen saturation level reportedly dropping drastically during emergency intervention.
Describing her as resilient and dedicated, he said, “She fought till the very end. This is a huge loss not just to the family but to the medical community.”
Until her death, Dr. Ogbachi was a registrar at NDUTH, a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, and an alumna of Niger Delta University. She is survived by her newborn triplets.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain an official statement from the hospital authorities were still ongoing.
