Kidnapped Couple Recount Ordeal After Amotekun Rescue In Ondo

A couple abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ondo State have narrated their traumatic experience after being rescued by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.

The victims, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Sanusi Kehinde, were reportedly kidnapped at Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area after armed men ambushed them near their residence.

According to Mr. Kehinde, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. shortly after they arrived home, unaware that the attackers had laid siege to the area waiting for them.

“We got home at Ilu-Abo and unknown to us, the kidnappers had already been waiting for us. As we wanted to alight from the vehicle, they attacked and abducted us,” he recounted.

He explained that the kidnappers dragged them into the bush, assaulted them physically and inflicted machete injuries during the attack.

Describing the experience as terrifying, Kehinde praised Amotekun operatives for their swift intervention, revealing that his wife was rescued less than 10 minutes after the incident was reported.

“The way Amotekun acted was amazing. In less than 10 minutes, they rescued my wife. The commander himself was in the bush during the operation,” he said.

He also disclosed that he received free medical treatment at the Amotekun clinic after the rescue operation and appreciated the Ondo State Government, the corps commander and local hunters for their support.

Mrs. Kehinde, while narrating her own experience, said four armed men surrounded their vehicle from different directions and pointed a double-barrel gun at her before dispossessing them of valuables.

“They collected my money and beat me with wood while forcing us through the bush,” she said.

She explained that while they were being marched through the forest, they spotted local hunters and Amotekun operatives close to a road, prompting her to raise the alarm which eventually led to her rescue.

Mrs. Kehinde added that she spent the night praying for her husband’s safety until she later received news that he had also been rescued successfully.

The couple commended Amotekun personnel, traditional rulers, local hunters and residents of the community for their efforts in securing their freedom.

The rescue operation is the latest in a series of anti-kidnapping efforts by security operatives in Ondo State amid growing concerns over insecurity in some communities.
