Hit-and-Run Crash Claims Two Women on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two unidentified women have lost their lives in a tragic hit-and-run accident along the Car Park C section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
Global Mirror News gathered that the fatal incident occurred on Friday June 12 evening when the victims were attempting to cross the busy highway. The vehicle involved reportedly struck the women and sped off immediately, leaving them critically injured on the road.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Media of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the crash occurred at about 6:31 p.m. on the outbound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to Akinbiyi, emergency responders were alerted shortly after the accident and moved to the scene to provide assistance.
“At about 1836hrs on June 12, 2026, a fatal hit-and-run crash occurred at Car Park C Outbound, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Two unidentified female pedestrians attempting to cross the road were knocked down by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene,” he stated.
Global Mirror News further learned that a white Mini Howo truck bearing registration number AKR 201 XD was later recovered and towed by officers from the Redeemed Police Motor Traffic Division as investigations into the crash commenced.
Akinbiyi disclosed that one of the victims died instantly at the accident scene due to the impact of the collision, while the second woman passed away while being transported to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Emergency personnel from the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services Ambulance Service (OGSEMSAS) responded promptly and evacuated the victims to Redeemed Hospital.
“One female victim was confirmed dead at the scene, while the second female victim later died during the evacuation process to the hospital. Upon arrival at Redeemed Hospital, medical personnel confirmed both victims dead and subsequently deposited their remains at the hospital morgue,” Akinbiyi explained.
The rescue and traffic management operation involved officials of TRACE, OGSEMSAS, the Amotekun Corps, and officers of the Redeemed Police Motor Traffic Division, who worked together to secure the scene and prevent further incidents.
The accident temporarily disrupted traffic flow along the expressway, causing delays for motorists before normal movement was restored following the evacuation of the victims and clearance of the area.
Authorities have since handed the case over to the police for further investigation aimed at identifying the fleeing driver and establishing the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The latest tragedy adds to the growing number of pedestrian deaths recorded on major highways across Ogun State, especially along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where speeding vehicles and unsafe road crossings continue to pose serious dangers.
Global Mirror News recalls that in March 2026, an unidentified man was killed in a similar hit-and-run accident at the Magboro axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while attempting to cross the road. Witnesses reported that the driver fled immediately after the collision, leaving the victim dead at the scene.
Similarly, in May 2026, another pedestrian was knocked down and killed by a Toyota Coaster bus at Imowo along the Imowo-Ibadan Road in Ijebu Ode. Traffic officials attributed the incident to an unsafe road-crossing attempt by the victim.
Road safety authorities have continued to urge pedestrians to use designated crossing points and remain vigilant while navigating major highways in order to reduce avoidable fatalities.
