2027 Senate Race: Ogun East APC Endorses Dapo Abiodun as Consensus Candidate

Leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East Senatorial District have formally presented and endorsed Prince Dapo Abiodun as the consensus candidate of the party for the 2027 Senate election.

The endorsement, which took place on Tuesday May 12, was described by party leaders as a strategic move aimed at preserving unity within the party, strengthening the APC’s structure in Ogun East, and ensuring quality representation for the district at the National Assembly.

The gathering attracted prominent APC leaders and political stakeholders from across Ogun East, including Olamilekan Adeola, former Deputy Governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka, as well as the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina, Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha, and Chairman of APC in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.

Speaking during the event, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun said party members and stakeholders across the Senatorial district unanimously agreed to adopt Governor Abiodun as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun East Senatorial race.

According to him, the decision reflected the confidence the people of Ogun East have in the Governor’s leadership style, political experience, and developmental achievements in Ogun State.

Also speaking, Senator Lekan Mustapha disclosed that the adoption of Governor Abiodun was the outcome of extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders within the district.

He recalled that during a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20, leaders of Ogun East unanimously agreed to support Abiodun as the preferred candidate of the party for the Senate seat, adding that Tuesday’s meeting was convened to formally communicate the resolution to the Governor and the State leadership of the APC.

In his remarks, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin formally presented Governor Abiodun to the Ogun State APC leadership, urging the State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, to forward the Governor’s name to the National leadership of the party as the official flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding to the endorsement, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed appreciation to leaders, elders, party executives, and delegates of Ogun East for the confidence reposed in him.

The Governor described the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of political maturity, unity, and collective commitment toward sustaining the growth and development of Ogun State.

Gov Abiodun said he was deeply humbled by the overwhelming support shown by stakeholders across the district and pledged not to disappoint the people if elected to represent Ogun East in the Senate.

He assured party faithful that he would provide effective, people-oriented, and impactful representation capable of attracting more Federal presence, infrastructure, and democratic dividends to Ogun East Senatorial District.

The Governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented support for Ogun State since the beginning of his administration.

He further praised leaders and stakeholders of Ogun East for prioritizing peace, unity, and cohesion within the party, noting that the adoption of a consensus candidate would further strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders across the district to consolidate ongoing developmental projects and political stability in Ogun State.

He equally appreciated Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former Deputy Governors, Party Executives, Elders, and supporters for their solidarity and commitment to the progress of the party, expressing confidence that the APC would remain united and victorious in future elections across the State.
