Tinubu Expands Police Training Footprint, Approves Ogun Academy Campus with N15bn Boost

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State, in a move seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and modernise law enforcement training Nationwide.
Global Mirror News gathered that the new campus will be located in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area, and will receive a ₦15 billion take-off grant to accelerate its development. The funding, according to the Presidency, will be sourced from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and will cover critical infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and essential training equipment.
The approval aligns with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the institution into a multi-campus system across the Country. Until now, the academy has operated a single campus in Wudil, Kano State.
According to officials, the decision followed a high-level consultative process involving key stakeholders, including the Ministries of Police Affairs and Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission. The panel reportedly assessed factors such as student intake capacity, funding sustainability, academic quality assurance, and the long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga noted that the expansion is designed to strengthen institutional governance, improve the quality of police education, and enhance national security outcomes.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to scale up police recruitment and improve training capacity, as Nigeria continues to confront evolving security challenges across regions.
