Oyo Police Probe Viral Video of Beheaded Teacher

The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing the killing of a teacher abducted during the recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the State.
Global Mirror News gathered that the victim, identified as Michael Oyedokun, was among teachers and pupils kidnapped when armed men stormed schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities last Friday.
The disturbing video, which circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage and renewed concerns over rising insecurity and attacks on schools across the Country.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command was reviewing the footage as part of ongoing investigations.
According to him, Security Agencies are working closely with the victim’s family and other relevant authorities to verify the authenticity of the video and uncover those responsible for the attack.
Global Mirror News reports that Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier confirmed that one of the abducted teachers was killed during the invasion, though details surrounding the manner of death were not officially disclosed at the time.
Global Mirror News reports that the attack occurred after suspected gunmen invaded multiple schools in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting several teachers, pupils and students before fleeing into nearby bushes.
The incident triggered widespread condemnation from Nigerians, civil society groups and education stakeholders, who called for urgent measures to strengthen security around schools.
President Bola Tinubu also condemned the attack, describing it as cruel and unacceptable, while directing security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure those behind the crime are arrested and prosecuted.
Meanwhile, the Police disclosed that six suspects linked to the attack had been arrested and were currently assisting investigators.
Security operatives, including the Police, Military Personnel, Amotekun Corps and Local Vigilantes, have continued coordinated operations in parts of Oyo State in search of the remaining abducted victims.
Residents of the affected communities have, however, expressed fear over the worsening security situation, with many parents reportedly keeping their children away from school following the incident.
