Ogun Workers Get Weekly Day-Off, N10,000 Transport Allowance as Abiodun Rolls Out Fuel Crisis Relief

The Ogun State Government has approved a set of palliative measures aimed at cushioning the impact of rising fuel prices on public servants, granting workers a weekly day off alongside a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for three months.
The intervention, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, comes amid growing economic pressure triggered by increased fuel costs and the resulting surge in transportation expenses across Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, the government said the initiative would take effect from April 2026.
He explained that the measures are designed to ease the burden on workers while maintaining efficiency in public service delivery.
According to Onasanya, the weekly day-off policy is intended to reduce commuting frequency for eligible workers, thereby lowering transport costs and improving overall well-being.
He added that the ₦10,000 transport allowance would be paid monthly for an initial period of three months to provide immediate financial relief.
However, the Head of Service clarified that certain categories of workers are exempted from the one-day-off arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties.
These include medical personnel, judicial workers, teaching and non-teaching staff across all levels of education, security personnel, accounting officers, heads of departments, and officers on special assignments requiring physical presence.
Despite the exemption, these workers will still receive the transport allowance. He further noted that accounting officers in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) would determine the specific day off for eligible staff, ensuring that government operations and service delivery remain uninterrupted.
Onasanya commended the governor for what he described as a timely and thoughtful intervention, noting that the policy reflects the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce amid current economic challenges.
He urged public servants to reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating increased dedication, discipline, and improved productivity in their respective roles.
