NUJ Ogun Disowns LOYAMP, Warns Against False Representation

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has distanced itself from a group identified as the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP), declaring that the Association is not recognized under the constitutional structure of the Union.

In a statement jointly signed by the Ogun State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the Council stated that LOYAMP is neither an organ, chapel, affiliate nor a professional association affiliated with the NUJ in Ogun State.

The Council stressed that no organization bearing the name League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP) exists within the official structure of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the State, and therefore lacks the authority or mandate to represent Journalists or Media Practitioners under the NUJ.

To avoid any ambiguity, the Council clarified that the only duly recognized NUJ chapel serving the Ogun West Senatorial District is the Ota Independent Online Chapel, whose members are professional Journalists with established credibility and are responsible for providing news coverage across the Yewa-Awori axis.

The Ogun NUJ reaffirmed that it remains the only legally recognized umbrella body for practicing Journalists in the State and will continue to uphold the ethics, integrity and professionalism of the Journalism profession.

The Council consequently advised members of the public, Government Agencies, Corporate organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any claims or representations by LOYAMP suggesting that it speaks on behalf of Journalists or Media Practitioners under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.

According to the statement, the Council remains committed to protecting the credibility of Journalism and ensuring that only duly recognized professional bodies operate under the banner of the NUJ.

The statement was jointly signed by the Ogun State NUJ Chairman, Comrade ‘Wale Olanrewaju, and the Council Secretary, Comrade ‘Bunmi Adigun.
