Nigerian Female Pilgrim Dies During Hajj in Saudi Arabia

A wave of grief has swept through Nigeria’s 2026 Hajj contingent following the death of a female pilgrim in the holy land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Global Mirror News gathered that the deceased, identified as Mallama Aishatu Muhammadu, was a 73-year-old pilgrim from Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State who died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest during the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage.
According to officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the tragic incident occurred while the pilgrim was travelling from Jeddah to the Holy City of Madinah in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s spokesperson, Fatima Usara, the Chairman of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased as well as the Adamawa State pilgrims board.
The Commission described the late pilgrim as devoted and prayerful, noting that her death has cast a shadow over this year’s pilgrimage exercise involving thousands of Nigerian Muslims currently in Saudi Arabia for the annual spiritual obligation.
Global Mirror News reports that the Hajj pilgrimage remains one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, attracting millions of Muslims yearly to the holy cities of Mecca and Madinah in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, prayers and condolence messages have continued to pour in from fellow pilgrims and Islamic faithful across Nigeria, with many asking God to grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort her family during the difficult time.
