INEC to resume final voter registration phase May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 11, 2026, for the commencement of the third and final phase of the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, as momentum builds toward the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday May 5 by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who confirmed that the exercise will run through July 10, 2026.
Global Mirror News gathered that the final phase is designed to give eligible Nigerians—particularly those who recently turned 18 or were unable to participate in earlier phases—another opportunity to register and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that the current nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise will resume for its third and final phase on Monday, May 11, 2026,” the statement read.
Further details obtained by Global Mirror News indicate that INEC had earlier suspended the second phase of the CVR on April 17, 2026, to enable a thorough clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.
Haruna explained that the clean-up process was critical to maintaining the credibility and accuracy of the electoral database ahead of the next phase.
Global Mirror News understands that the Commission has made adequate provisions for both fresh registrations and updates, urging all qualified citizens not to miss the final window to be captured in the voter register.
