Tragedy on Lagos Bridge: Woman Dies, Four Injured in Early Morning Crash

A woman has been confirmed dead while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident involving two Toyota Sienna vehicles on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 5, causing panic among commuters on the busy bridge.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olawale Afolabi, both vehicles involved in the crash were commercial buses and fully loaded with passengers at the time of the collision.

He disclosed that emergency responders swiftly moved injured victims to a nearby trauma centre, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary findings, Afolabi noted, indicate that reckless driving by one of the drivers led to the accident, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

“The impact of the crash led to severe damage and casualties,” he said.

He further explained that LASEMA’s Tiger Squad, operating from the C3 Command Centre, was deployed at about 7:26 a.m. and arrived at the scene around 8:00 a.m. to carry out rescue and recovery operations.

Officials of LASEMA worked in coordination with officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to control traffic flow and evacuate the wreckage from the bridge.

The incident caused temporary disruption along the Third Mainland Bridge, one of Lagos’ busiest routes, before normal traffic movement was gradually restored.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
