Gov. Abiodun Presents Adeola to Ijebu Monarchs, Seeks Royal Blessings for 2027 Governorship Bid

Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Friday July 10, 2026 formally introduced the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, and his running mate, Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, to members of the Ijebu Traditional Council, seeking their support and blessings ahead of the poll.

The presentation took place at the palace of the late Awujale in Ijebu-Ode and formed part of ongoing consultations by the Governor following Senator Adeola’s emergence as the APC flag bearer.

Addressing the Royal Fathers, Governor Abiodun said his endorsement of Senator Adeola was guided by the principles of equity, fairness and competence, noting that Ogun West Senatorial District deserves the opportunity to produce the state’s governor for the first time since the creation of Ogun State 50 years ago.

According to the Governor, his search for a successor was not aimed at securing a third term by proxy but at identifying a capable leader who would sustain and build on the achievements of his administration.

“I was not looking for a third term, but for somebody who would comfortably step into my shoes and continue to build on what we have achieved from day one,” Abiodun said.

He added that Senator Adeola possesses the qualities needed to lead the state and ensure continuity in governance and development.

Governor Abiodun recalled the support and prayers he received from the traditional institution before the 2019 Governorship election and appealed to the royal fathers to extend the same goodwill to the APC candidate.

“The same way you prayed for me in 2018 and have continued to support me over the past seven years, I ask that you extend the same prayers and support to him. I can confidently assure you that he will not disappoint the people of Ogun State,” he stated.

The Governor also sought support for the deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, describing her as an accomplished professional whose extensive corporate experience would complement Senator Adeola’s leadership.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements in Ijebuland, Abiodun said several promises made to the traditional rulers before assuming office had either been fulfilled or were being implemented.

He listed the reconstruction of the Ijebu-Ode-Epe Road, the Federal Government’s takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), and the ongoing infrastructural and economic transformation of Ogun Waterside as evidence of his administration’s commitment to the area.

He further noted that Ogun Waterside, which had suffered years of neglect, is now receiving significant government attention through strategic development projects.

In his remarks, Senator Adeola pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the Abiodun administration and pursue major economic initiatives capable of unlocking the vast potential of Ogun Waterside.

The APC Governorship candidate promised to work towards making Ogun an oil-producing state through commercial oil exploration, facilitate the establishment of a deep seaport and revive the long-abandoned Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG) project.

Adeola also assured the people of Ijebuland of his support for the agitation for the creation of Ijebu State and pledged equitable distribution of development projects across the state.

“I appreciate the support our traditional rulers have given Governor Abiodun over the past seven years, and I assure you that we will build on his achievements while advancing projects that will accelerate the development of Ogun State,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Acting Chairman of the Ijebu Traditional Council and the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba, assured Governor Abiodun of the royal fathers’ support for Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition.

He also pledged the support of the traditional institution for Governor Abiodun’s bid for the Ogun East Senatorial seat, expressing confidence that continuity in leadership would guarantee more developmental projects for the district.

The event, attended by APC leaders and stakeholders from the three senatorial districts of Ogun State, ended with special royal blessings offered for Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola and Mrs. Adegunwa-Balogun ahead of the 2027 general elections.
