Couple Arrested as Ogun Police Rescue Stolen Baby, Recover Two Other Missing Children

A dramatic Police operation in Ogun State has led to the arrest of a husband and wife allegedly involved in child theft, while three children , including a four-month-old baby were rescued in Mowe.

Global Mirror News gathered that operatives of the Ogun State Police Command apprehended the suspects, identified as Oluwarankami Kehinde Ugochukwu and her husband, Ugochukwu Mathew, after an intensive intelligence-led investigation by detectives attached to the Mowe Police Division.

The operation was reportedly coordinated by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Afeniforo Folake, following a complaint filed on May 17, 2026, by a distraught mother whose infant was allegedly stolen from a clinic in Mowe.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred a day earlier while the nursing mother was receiving medical attention at the clinic.

The female suspect allegedly approached the woman under the guise of assisting her with the baby while she rested. Moments later, the suspect reportedly vanished with the four-month-old child, leaving the mother devastated.

Following the report, detectives immediately launched a coordinated manhunt, placing motor parks and several strategic locations under close surveillance.

Acting on credible intelligence, Police operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout in the Kekere Ekun area of Mowe on May 18, successfully rescuing the stolen infant.

In a shocking twist, detectives also discovered two additional children in the couple’s custody during the operation.

Preliminary investigations later revealed that one of the children had earlier been declared missing in a separate child theft case reported in 2024.

Police authorities disclosed that the biological parents of two of the rescued children have already identified and confirmed ownership of the children.

The rescued children are currently in protective custody as authorities continue investigations into the suspected child trafficking network.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Commending the Officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the Mowe Division for its swift response and professionalism.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling child trafficking, abduction, and other violent crimes across the State.

The Police also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
