Awujale Race Heats Up as 95 Royals Join Battle for Ijebu Throne
The race to produce the next Awujale of Ijebuland has taken a dramatic turn as 95 Princes and Princesses from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House formally declared their interest in the highly revered throne, Global Mirror News has gathered.
The massive number of contenders was announced at the opening of the nomination and screening meeting held at Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, where leaders and elders of the Fusengbuwa family converged to begin the process of selecting a successor to the historic stool.
Presiding over the meeting, the Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi (Jadiara), disclosed that all names submitted will undergo preliminary screening before a shortlist is forwarded to the Afobajes (kingmakers), who will ultimately pick one candidate to be presented to the Ogun State Government for approval.
Otunba Owoyemi also stressed that the process would follow due traditional and legal procedures, adding that any aggrieved aspirant retains the right to seek redress through appropriate Government channels.
Global Mirror News gathered that the large number of aspirants reflects both the deep royal lineage of the Fusengbuwa house and the growing interest in the Awujale stool, one of the most prestigious traditional institutions in Yorubaland.
