Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons Abducted in Ibadan as Family Urges Calm

The family of former Minister of Power and prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by suspected gunmen in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped in the early hours of June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was reportedly taking her children to school.
The family disclosed that the 43-year-old mother was intercepted by armed abductors at about 7:30 a.m. and forcefully taken away alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, in what has been described as a disturbing incident that has thrown relatives and associates into anxiety.
Global Mirror News gathered that immediately after the incident was reported, relevant security and law enforcement agencies were contacted and have since commenced investigations aimed at rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, had a distinguished career spanning years in the banking and financial sector. She reportedly served at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.
Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children and was said to be making arrangements to reunite with her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.
The family expressed deep concern over the development, describing the incident as traumatic and heartbreaking. However, they maintained confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.
“Chief Adebayo Adelabu and the entire family are deeply distressed by this tragic development but remain hopeful and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children,” the statement read.
The family further appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could compromise ongoing rescue efforts.
They also called on Nigerians to offer prayers and support while urging anyone with useful information regarding the whereabouts of the victims to immediately report such information to security authorities through appropriate channels.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to be intensifying efforts to locate and rescue the victims, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the abduction continue.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the spate of kidnappings and violent crimes across parts of the country, with citizens increasingly calling for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
Global Mirror News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
