Reps Session Turns Chaotic as Lawmakers Clash Over Bid to Summon Tinubu on Budget Delays

The House of Representatives on Wednesday July 8, 2026, descended into a rowdy session after a motion seeking to invite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to explain the poor implementation of the 2026 Budget and delays in releasing funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) sparked heated exchanges among Lawmakers.
Global Mirror News gathered that the motion, moved by Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh, raised concerns over the slow pace of budget execution and the implications of delayed funding on Government operations and National Security.
Presenting the motion, Ikwechegh lamented that several Government Agencies were struggling due to inadequate funding while insecurity continued to claim lives across the Country.
“Agencies are not being funded. Our people are kidnapped every day. Heads are being chopped off on National television every day. We want to invite the President of Nigeria as our father to come and explain to us why we are spending trillions of Naira on coastal roads while Nigerians are dying,” he said.
Global Mirror News also learnt that the Lawmaker’s remarks immediately triggered sharp reactions on the floor of the House, with members opposed to the motion repeatedly interrupting proceedings and demanding that Ikwechegh and his supporters take their seats.
The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated exchange, disrupting legislative proceedings and resulting in a prolonged debate that lasted for about 30 minutes.
At the end of the deliberations, Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, ruled against the motion.
Abbas explained that the prayers presented on the floor of the House differed from those contained in the original document submitted by the motion’s sponsor, describing the changes as a deviation from the approved text.
The Speaker’s decision effectively halted the move to summon President Tinubu, bringing an end to one of the most heated sessions witnessed in the Green Chamber in recent times.
