Tension Grips Ibadan’s Ojoo Area as Communal Clashes Erupt

Tension engulfed the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday July 8 following violent clashes reportedly involving groups from the Yoruba and Hausa communities.
The incident, which caused panic among residents and commuters in the bustling area, prompted the immediate deployment of personnel from Operation Burst, Oyo State’s joint security task force, to restore peace and prevent the situation from escalating further.
Although the exact cause of the violence remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, eyewitness accounts indicated that the unrest led to disturbances in parts of the community, forcing many residents to stay indoors while business activities were disrupted.
Reports also indicated that a scavengers’ depot, popularly known as “Bolla,” was set ablaze during the clashes. However, the circumstances surrounding the fire incident and those responsible for setting the facility on fire had not been independently verified.
Authorities had yet to officially confirm the identities of those involved in the clashes or provide details on casualties and possible arrests.
Residents of the area have been advised to remain calm, avoid flashpoints and rely only on information from security agencies as efforts continue to contain the situation and restore normalcy.
As of Wednesday evening, security authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident.
