PSC Cracks Down on Police Misconduct, Dismisses Four Senior Officers, Demotes 10

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed four Senior Police Officers and demoted 10 others over various acts of misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

Global Mirror News gathered that the disciplinary actions were approved during the Commission’s Plenary Meeting held at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja and were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday July 7, 2026, by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu.

According to the Commission, the four Senior Officers were dismissed after being found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct, and acts unbecoming of public officers.

In addition to the dismissals, 10 Senior Officers were reduced in rank. The affected Officers include three Superintendents of Police (SPs) who were demoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), two DSPs reduced to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and five ASPs demoted to the rank of Inspector.

The PSC also approved disciplinary sanctions against 31 other officers. Ten Officers received severe reprimands, five were reprimanded, three received warning letters, while one officer was issued a letter of advice.

Furthermore, the Commission approved the compulsory retirement of two Officers, citing public interest.

However, seven Officers facing allegations were cleared after investigations found no evidence linking them to any wrongdoing.

Reacting to the decisions, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the current board would not tolerate misconduct among police personnel.

He stressed that the Commission remains committed to upholding discipline in the Nigeria Police Force and would continue to impose appropriate sanctions on officers found guilty of misconduct.

Argungu also assured that hardworking and exemplary Officers would continue to be recognised and rewarded through the commission’s established reward system.

The PSC reiterated its resolve to promote accountability, professionalism, and restore public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through strict enforcement of disciplinary standards.
