Oyebanji Secures Second Term as INEC Declares APC Candidate Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the Ekiti State Governorship election held on Saturday, June 21.

Global Mirror News gathered that Oyebanji secured re-election after polling 319,224 votes across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Dare Bejide.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, announced the final result in the early hours of Sunday at the State collation centre located at the INEC headquarters on Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti.

Oladiji, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said Oyebanji had fulfilled the legal requirements for victory.

“Therefore, I, Adenike, am the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti Governorship election. Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected,” she announced.

According to the final figures released by INEC, the APC candidate polled 319,224 votes, while Oluyede of the PDP received 40,533 votes. The ADC candidate, Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.

INEC also disclosed that 988,251 voters were registered for the election, with 384,940 accredited voters. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, while 375,777 were recorded as valid votes.

Oyebanji maintained a commanding lead across the state, winning all 16 Local Government Areas in the election.

In Ikere Local Government Area, the home council of the PDP candidate, the APC recorded 11,116 votes, while the PDP polled 9,872 votes and the ADC received 245 votes.

The APC also posted strong results in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, where it secured 38,026 votes. The PDP polled 3,817 votes in the council, while the ADC received 1,054 votes.

Other results showed that the APC polled 29,278 votes in Irepodun/Ifelodun, 28,258 votes in Ekiti West, 26,508 votes in Ikole, 26,359 votes in Ekiti East and 25,506 votes in Ijero Local Government Area.

In Oye Local Government Area, Oyebanji received 18,975 votes, while the APC scored 20,500 votes in Moba, 17,901 votes in Ido/Osi and 17,133 votes in Ayekire/Gbonyin.

The Governor also won in Efon, Emure, Ekiti South-West, Ilejemeje and Ise/Orun local government areas.

The result confirms Oyebanji’s return for another term as Governor of Ekiti State, following a sweeping victory for the APC across the State.
