Ogun Police Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover N2.2m Cash, Firearm

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the State.

The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activity.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

According to the Police, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State. Following the report, the command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to ensure the victim’s safe release and arrest the suspects involved.

Babaseyi said sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and pressure mounted on the gang led to the victim’s release unharmed on June 18, 2026.

Determined to apprehend those behind the abduction, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensified its investigation and launched a coordinated manhunt for the suspects.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced members of the gang to a hideout within the State. However, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the Police team in an attempt to evade arrest.

The operatives responded, leading to a gun battle during which two suspected kidnappers were neutralised. Other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million cash.

The Police said the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.

“The successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven and proactive crime-fighting strategies being vigorously pursued by the Ogun State Police Command,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its courage, professionalism and operational effectiveness.

Ojajuni said the breakthrough reinforces the command’s resolve to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state.

He assured residents that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal elements, adding that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and community partnerships to protect lives and property.

The Police also urged members of the public to remain security conscious and provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime.
